Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

5 years of experience in drafting or enforcing policy for an online platform or engagement with online public policy issues.

Experience working with global teams and communicating with stakeholders cross-functionally.

Experience engaging with and discussing sensitive or controversial types of content.

Preferred qualifications:

Master's degree in Law, Public Policy, Human Rights, or Government.

Experience implementing strategic and/or large scale projects in a demanding, fast-paced environment.

Ability to thrive in a rapidly changing environment.

Outstanding problem solving ability and attention to detail.

Exceptional written, presentation, and verbal communication skills.

Whether understanding and solving their online content concerns, navigating within global legal frameworks, or writing and enforcing worldwide policy, the Trust & Safety team is on the frontlines of enhancing the YouTube experience, building internet safety, and protecting free speech in our ever-evolving digital world.

As the Trust & Safety Policy Lead, you’re a natural at context switching, wearing multiple hats, motivated, and someone who naturally rallies colleagues around shared goals. You will seamlessly switch between developing global policies for YouTube content and driving cross-functional projects impacting the global ecosystem. You will sometimes be involved in reviewing graphic, controversial, and sometimes offensive video content in line with YouTube’s Community Guidelines.

Responsibilities

Develop, maintain, and update our global policies in various areas of online content.

Support initiatives and policy development relating to Racial Justice, Freedom of Speech, and Human Rights.

Influence cross-functional stakeholders and company executives regarding proposed content policy efforts.

Lead research and trainings for developing new policies and understanding emerging risks across the globe, including speech and political trends, and work closely with global teams to ensure effective operationalization of global policies.

Build and strengthen partnerships with partners across cross-functional groups including Public Policy, PR, Legal, Product, Engineering, and Sales, and understand and clearly communicate the challenges and needs presented by the latest trends globally.
