The Institute for Trustworthy AI in Law & Society (TRAILS) is the first organization to integrate artificial intelligence participation, technology and governance during the design, development, deployment and oversight of AI systems. We investigate what trust in AI looks like, how to create technical AI solutions that build trust, and which policy models are effective in sustaining trust. TRAILS is a partnership between the University of Maryland, George Washington University and Morgan State University.


TRAILS and aligned trustworthy AI efforts are GW are seeking an outreach coordinator

who will play a vital role in building a long-tern sustainable institute, by promoting activities including, but not limited to, executive education and other tuition generating program, fundraising from philanthropic donors and corporate sponsors, conducting high-profile convening activities, identifying research grant opportunities for faculty, and conducting activities to promote the public profile of the TRAILS Institute, and GW Trustworthy AI efforts as embodied in a corresponding GW chartered institute in engaging with policy, industry, and academic communities. This will require close coordination with TRAILS leadership at GWU to ensure seamless execution of institute activities.


Responsibilities:


1. Promote TRAILS and Trustworthy AI activities within the industry and policy communities, ensuing broader reach and engagement.

  • Develop and implement strategies to increase awareness and visibility of the TRAILS and GW Institute among relevant stakeholders.
  • Utilize various communication channels, such as social media, newsletters, and industry conferences to disseminate information about the institutes’ initiatives and achievements.
  • Actively engage with policy and industry leaders to foster relationships and encourage their involvement with the TRAILS and GW Institute.


2. Contribute to recruitment efforts for executive education programs and other outreach initiatives:

  • Collaborate with the team to develop marketing materials and strategies to attract qualified candidates for executive education programs.
  • Identify target industries, organizations, and professionals that would benefit from the institute’s educational offerings and develop targeted recruitment campaigns.
  • Maintain relationships with prospective students, provide information about program offerings, and guide them through the recruitment process.


3. Collaborate with the principal and co-principal Investigator to develop a long-term sustainability strategy for the TRAILS and GW Institute beyond the grant’s period of performance:

  • Research and identify potential funding opportunities, including research grants, philanthropic donations, and corporate sponsorships.
  • Work with the team to develop compelling proposals and pitches for securing long-term financial support.
  • Continuously assess and refine the sustainability strategy based on changing trends and opportunities in the academic, policy and industry sectors.


4. Engage with the policy, industry and academic communities:

  • Represent the institute at conferences, meetings, and other relevant events, delivering presentations and engaging in panel discussion.
  • Cultivate relationships with key stakeholders, including policymakers, industry leaders, and academic experts, to position the TRAILS and GW Institute as thought leaders and valuable partners.
  • Actively participate in relevant professional networks and organizations to stay abreast of industry trends and opportunities.


5. Direct and organize convening activities aimed at fostering collaboration amount policy, industry, and academic stakeholders:

  • Conceptualize, plan and execute high-profile events, such as conferences, workshops, and round table discussions, to facilitate knowledge sharing and networking.
  • Identify and invite influential speakers and experts to participate in institute events, ensuring diverse perspectives and expertise.
  • Manage event logistics, venue selection, budgets, scheduling and coordination of external vendors and partners.


6. Coordinate closely with the principal and co-principal investigator’s team:

  • Maintain regular communication with principal and co-principal’s, and management team to align institute activities with broader goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate on strategic planning, budgeting, and reporting to ensure the smooth functioning of the institute.
  • Support the principal investigator and co-principal investigator in preparing progress reports, presentations, and other documentation required by funding agencies and stakeholders.
