Role Summary

The Public Affairs Manager is a subject matter expert in the development and execution of corporate sponsorships, donations, community-based events, and partnerships within the state of Hawaii. As an individual contributor this role supports business objectives, represents the company in state and local government affairs by establishing and maintaining relationships with elected officials, business advocacy organizations, and internal stakeholders for Alaska Air Group (AAG).

Key Duties

  • Research, evaluate, review, and make recommendations to executive leadership for all of Hawaii corporate giving including requests, sponsorships, and execution of grant selection processes.
  • Acts as a public affairs speaker and ambassador for AAG and its subsidiaries in Hawaii and across our key West Coast locations.
  • Coordinates with internal public affairs and sales leadership.
  • Develop and execute workplans for events, projects, and initiatives including budgets and reports.
  • Create and execute written communication to support Alaska Airlines public affairs including but not limited to presentations, multimedia content, events, and partner announcements.
  • With limited direction, identifies, builds, and maintains new and existing relationships with community-based organizations and government entities.
  • Represents Alaska Airlines in various forums including but not limited to state and local government, legislature, community events, trade associations and employee meetings.
  • Manages communication of company positions on public policy issues to key public officials and staff.
  • Participates in the development and execution of the company’s state and local political contribution plan.
  • Represents the Government Affairs Department with key internal and external stakeholders.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 4 years of experience in marketing, public relations, communications, state or local government affairs, or related area.
  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree, preferably with a focus in communications, public relations, marketing, business administration, tourism, or a related discipline; or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with multi - level internal and external partners stakeholders and customers.
  • Strong communication (verbal, written, and interpersonal), organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to appropriately prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and deliver results.
  • Demonstrated experience with budget processes and systems.
  • Ability to work independently, practice confidentiality, and maintain professionalism under pressure.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Ability to travel throughout Hawaii and West Coast hub locations.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • Experience with Hawaii community, public affairs, or political.
  • Events management and accounting experience.
  • Experience with airline or aviation policy issues.

Salary Range

$81,100 - $121,700 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees.
