VP, Awareness & Prevention Programs (AHLAF)

Over the last several years, AHLA and the AHLA Foundation have spearheaded the “No Room for Trafficking” program, building resources and tools and encouraging all employees to get trained to spot the signs and stop human trafficking. In just one year, some 500,000 employees have taken our free training.

Position Summary

Fight human trafficking in the hotel industry. This newly created role is responsible for growing awareness of human trafficking prevention efforts and adoption of training resources in the industry. The successful candidate will spearhead the adoption of new trainings, develop additional trainings for different employee segments; build on and/or develop new partnerships in the trafficking prevention community. This person is will also be required to execute on a strategic plan that calls for the creation of a Survivor Network and fund in partnership with the fundraising team; and promote the industry as a leader in this area with our members, and external stakeholders, around the country. This is a senior role on the team, reporting to the President & CEO and supporting the senior leadership of the Foundation and the Board of Trustees.

Responsibilities

  • Execute on a five-year strategy to train every hotel employee and demonstrate the hotel industry’s leadership in bringing awareness to and preventing human trafficking in the hotel and lodging industry.
  • Lead PR and visibility efforts, including press events, media outreach, member communication.
  • Represent AHLAF in conferences, board meetings, and public facing presentations to major stakeholders as it relates to human trafficking programming.
  • Serve as the liaison between the Foundation, and our external partners, including ECPAT-USA, Polaris, A21, NCMEC, DHS (Department of Homeland Security) Blue Campaign and others.
  • Create an industry-led Advisory Group to assist in the direction of the campaign, participate in visibility opportunities and assist in fundraising.
  • Supervise development of training materials and collaborate with partners to develop new trainings as required and track all metrics.
  • Build a Survivor Network to support survivors of human trafficking and partner with the VP of Career Development to create dedicated educational programs that lead to job placement.
  • Provide ongoing program assessment and evaluation of best practices and implement appropriate programmatic changes based on current needs within the program in collaboration with the President & CEO.
  • Manage external consultants, partners, and vendors.
  • Support the development of innovative programs and efforts tied to the AHLA Foundation 5-year Strategic Plan.
  • Align AHLAF efforts with the association (AHLA) to ensure we share our story of impact with all stakeholders related to the hotel industry.


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in education, non-profits, and career development.
  • Program management and campaign experience.
  • Experience in prevention and awareness-building campaigns required.
  • Experience in change leadership and change management
  • Experience developing programs from the ground up, monitoring and measuring success.
  • Presentation and leadership skills to articulate your vision, gain buy-in from diverse groups and advance the organization’s agenda.
  • Management of external consultants and direct reports.
  • Budget management experience needed.

  • Excellent relationship management skills, with the ability to cross collaborate effectively (both with internal and with external partners).
  • Strong strategic thinking skills – considers connections, draws conclusions, and makes recommendations across AHLAF programs. 
  • Detail-oriented individual with exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments.
  • Thrives working in a fun and fast-paced environment and an ability to work both independently and collaboratively across the organization.
  • Ability to travel (moderate).
