The Team You’ll Work With:
The Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (MOIA) was established pursuant to the New York City Charter
to promote the well-being of immigrant communities. To achieve this, MOIA serves as a bridge between
city government and immigrant communities; advises and assists in developing and implementing
policies designed to assist immigrants and speakers of languages; and supports and enhances the ability
of city agencies and offices to serve these immigrant populations. MOIA’s work cuts across a broad
range of issues citywide and MOIA works closely with cities around the country and the world to
promote innovations in immigrant access to services. To learn more, visit

The Problems You’ll Solve
MOIA seeks a Communications Coordinator, who will join a dynamic team in a fast-paced work
environment. Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Communications Coordinator is
responsible in promoting a positive public image in the media of the office. The Communications
Coordinator will also play a key role in the planning, execution, and on-time delivery of deliverables on
numerous key initiatives and projects.

The Communications Coordinator will play a critical role in the development and execution of effective
communications strategies aimed to connect immigrant New Yorkers to crucial information and services.
The strategies and techniques used will also dispel fear and hesitancy for accessing those resources, and
address gaps in access between low-to-middle-income immigrants and their non-immigrant counterparts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the creation and dissemination of innovative community messaging, graphics, social

media toolkits, and other digital and multilingual content for external affairs projects, initiatives,

outreach events, and other materials for public consumption.


  • Drafting prep documents (including briefings and memos) for the Commissioner as well as flyers,

press releases, statements, quotes, and op-eds; and digital and multilingual content.

  • Staff the Commissioner at community events, and ensure constituent concerns raised at the

events receive appropriate follow up.

  • Project manage the community group e-newsletter that will be sent out on a bi-weekly basis

through MailChimp.

  • Project manage the process for translating community-facing messaging and materials into key

languages.

  • Develop new systems for tracking, assessing, and updating MOIA’s public facing communication.
  • Support agency’s response to questions, comments, and concerns received by mainstream press,

community and ethnic media press, and constituents.

  • Support the production of in-person press conferences, media roundtables, and other MOIA

press events.

  • Provide communications and outreach team support as needed.

About You
  • Bachelor's degree preferred;
  • 2+ years work experience required;
  • Outstanding collaboration and team building skills with proven abilities in working with various

levels of staff;

  • Self-starter who can take initiative and work both individually and as part of a team;
  • Excellent analytic, organization, presentation and facilitation skills;
  • Experience serving immigrant communities, or providing language services is preferred;
  • Effective management of multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-pressure work environment;
  • Proficiency in MS Office products;
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills.

Salary
The City of New York Office of the Mayor’s compensation package includes a market competitive salary,

equity for all full-time roles and exceptional benefits.

Our cash compensation range for this role is $50,000 - $55,000.

Final offers may vary from the amount listed based on candidate experience and expertise, and other

factors.
