About the job

As a member of Google’s Government Affairs and Public Policy team, you'll be part of a diverse global government affairs team, working across regions, product areas, and functions. You’ll combine creativity and intellectual excellence with the organizational skills to manage various campaigns, projects and initiatives. In this role, you’ll advocate for Google to bring external perspectives back into the company to inform our perception and direction. You're passionate about the opportunity to shape the future of how we use and build technology for everyone.

You will join Google’s Access to Information hub in the Government Affairs and Public Policy team. This is a diverse global team, working across geographies, business areas and functions to help shape Google’s approach to information policy and content regulation and the future of the open web.

In this role, you will drive projects and positions across several issues relating to information quality and content moderation, with a focus on misinformation, disinformation, hate, and violent extremism. You'll provide subject matter expertise and advice to internal stakeholders working on these issues and represent the company with third-party experts, civil society organizations, and industry groups. In doing so, you will partner with a roster of product, legal, communications, government affairs, and trust and safety teams across the company to jointly advance our work and help Google earn and retain the trust of our users and stakeholders.

Google takes its responsibilities seriously, including engaging with government and other stakeholders on important public policy challenges. The Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team leads the company’s engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators and third-parties in the formation of public policy. Working closely with Google leaders, GAPP seeks to identify key policy issues, listen carefully to others’ views and opinions, and distill and share the company’s perspective on those issues with external stakeholders. While we focus on challenges affecting the internet, our issue areas are increasingly broad and encompass many areas where public policy, business, and technology intersect.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and research current and relevant emerging research, industry, and policy developments.
  • Support outreach with policymakers, industry players, academia, and key opinion formers in thoughtful dialogue.
  • Develop position papers and programs to anticipate and contribute to the public debate regarding access to information, hate, violent extremism, and relevant interventions.
  • Work closely with Trust and Safety, Product, Engineering, and other teams across Google to advise on responsible policy and product development.
  • Advocate for Google externally and bring external perspectives back into the company to inform our perception and direction. Engage directly with regulators, industry players, and key thought leaders to shape policy and political dialogue around thoughtful, responsible and socially beneficial use of internet-based innovation. Advance Google's mission and defend its values.
