Summary

The United States Capitol Police (USCP) safeguards the Congress, Members of Congress, employees, visitors, and Congressional buildings and grounds from crime, disruption, and terrorism. We protect and secure Congress so it can fulfill its constitutional and legislative responsibilities in a safe, secure and open environment.

Duties

This position is located in the Intelligence and Interagency Coordination Division, Protective Services Bureau, Protective and Intelligence Operations, United States Capitol Police. The purpose of this position is to collect, analyze, and disseminate domestic and international threat information. The position researches, develops and analyzes information to produce threat assessments related to Congressional travel, special events, field hearings, CODELS, and other significant events on or near the U.S. Capitol Complex that could affect Congressional operations and the ability of law enforcement personnel to conduct effect, targeted operations. Analyzes, assimilates, and evaluates available intelligence information relating to an assigned foreign and domestic events, groups, countries and other areas of interest pertinent to USCP investigations, security, and protective operations. Selects new and pertinent material for the files and for recognizing the need to call to the attention of higher level personnel important new information which may identify the need for further examination or study.

Prepares complete studies and analyses of factual data, which may be complete in itself. Evaluates and interprets findings. May perform assigned segments or contribute to larger studies and statistical compilations. Participates in interagency committees and meetings representing USCP related to specific projects or assigned areas of research. Evaluates intelligence information pertaining to a complete but limited topic or assigned area of study, or contributes to a larger study for major segments of complex intelligence, investigative, and analytical activities for a broad geographical area to gather sensitive evidence and intelligence that aids and enhances the USCP protective and security programs. Informs supervisor or higher-grade specialist of new information or emerging trends that merit further examination or study.

Utilizes classified and unclassified databases and computer-aided tools, conducts extensive research, including interpretation and evaluation, of complex multisource data, to determine whether an identity being vetted is match to an identity on terrorism related watch lists.
