Job Description

ABOUT ASAP

The Armed Services Arts Partnership (ASAP) is the largest community arts organization serving the military community in the US. ASAP fosters creative communities where veterans, service members, military family members, and caregivers thrive through the arts. Our free, immersive classes include stand-up comedy, storytelling, improv, creative writing, acting, drawing, and more. Research demonstrates ASAP participants experience significant, lasting improvements in resilience, belonging, self-esteem, and self-discovery.

ASAP chapters are currently located in Washington, DC; Hampton Roads, VA; San Diego, CA; and Indianapolis, IN — and we are expanding nationally. We’ve reached 1,700 unique veterans in six years, and our alumni have performed for an estimated 150,000+ audience members, including shows at the Warner Theater, Gotham Comedy Club, and at The White House under President Obama. We have been featured by CNN, ABC, NBC, PBS, NPR, The Washington Post, POLITICO, and Forbes.

ABOUT THIS ROLE

Location: Remote role based in the Washington, DC metro area. Some in-person event attendance is required. Up to 20% travel time.

Business hours: Full-time, flexible hours.

Position overview

As the leader of ASAP’s programs, you’ll lead a growing, mission-driven team to deliver and scale ASAP’s impact nationally. You’ll partner closely with our Executive Director on strategic planning and will lead the program team to maintain excellent program quality as we grow. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with ASAP’s Executive Director to plan and execute our national growth strategy. Establish organization-wide annual goals that are ambitious and realistic.
  • Capacity Building: Lead major projects to build program capacity, such as instructor training programs and CRM development.
  • Research, Monitoring, & Evaluation: Guide our research team to evaluate and improve ASAP’s programs. Shape surveys, review reports, and make adjustments to our programs based on key learnings. Continue to invest in ASAP’s research priorities to further establish ASAP as a learning organization.
  • Partnerships: Build strategic partnerships with foundations, entertainment industry stakeholders, arts organizations, and government agencies to advance program goals.
  • Program Development: Identify and oversee development of new arts curricula, instructor training programs, and alumni engagement programs.
  • Grant Support & Reporting: Ensure our grants team has all the information they need to craft persuasive funding proposals; assist in preparing detailed reports on our impact to key funders.
  • Budget: Develop and monitor program budget.

You’ll love this role if

  • You enjoy planning for the future — and then making it happen. You enjoy a concise strategic plan, an inspiring slide deck or a thoughtful timeline.
  • You thrive when there is more going on. Hundreds of emails, dozens of relationships, and lots of competing priorities between the long-term strategic and immediate events? Music to your ears.
  • Elegantly presenting information (in whatever medium) is a strength of yours. We love writing, sharing ideas, and proposing new ones. You should too.
  • You are a management machine. You’re comfortable and confident leading staff one-on-one and having difficult conversations — and you have years of experience doing so.
  • Research and data are compelling to you. You believe that nonprofit programs should be evidence-based and you’re committed to maintaining ASAP’s data-driven culture.
  • You don’t mind working some evenings and weekends — that’s when our classes and performances happen!
  • You are moved by our vision of enriching the lives of veterans through the arts and community — and want to engage our participants, volunteers, and instructors as partners to realize this vision together.

Compensation & benefits

  • Annual compensation of $75,000-$80,000
  • Full healthcare, vision, and dental benefits
  • Retirement plan with employer contribution
  • $1,500 annual leadership development stipend
  • Generous holiday schedule and 18 days PTO
  • Opportunities to publish op-eds and academic articles, speak at conferences and panels, and represent ASAP to the media
