Summary/Objective

The staff accountant position is responsible for assisting the Finance Director in ensuring the Finance Department creates accurate and timely financial records for the organization.

Essential Functions

  1. Responsible for monthly general ledger account analysis and balance sheet account reconciliations.
  2. Responsible for processing Accounts Payable on a weekly basis.
  3. Conducts bank/credit card reconciliations records cash and other transactions directly to the general ledger
  4. Prepares monthly journal entries
  5. Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities
  6. Responsible for recording the allocations (Salary, benefits, and overhead) in the accounting system on a monthly basis. 
  7. Works in a team-oriented environment and assists colleagues to ensure that all financials (and other tasks) are completed timely and accurately.
  8. Works collaboratively with operating units and Development Team to ensure accuracy of grant and donor transactions; makes adjusting entries as necessary.
  9. Handles and maintains integrity and confidentiality of highly sensitive human resource and management information records.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

Salary: 60-70k

Supervisory Responsibility: The staff accountant has no direct supervisory responsibilities. 

Physical Demands: This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. 

Travel: No travel is expected for this position.

Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent number of years of experience plus 2 years of accounting experience.

Preferred Education and Experience: Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
