Support the business intelligence political, economic, and technology-focused research agenda. Conduct in-depth research and produce written analytic memos on politics and macroeconomics. Research topics will include trade, foreign policy, and the regulatory environment, as applicable to the automotive and technology industries. Serve as an issue project manager, a key conduit and communicator across business functions, and a data visualization aficionado.

Produce thorough analysis that reflects a nuanced understanding of political and economic policymaking. Research and monitor issues and trends related to an evolving automotive industry, both aggressively and as directed. Produce accurate, concise, and timely reports, memos, and briefing documents to support the group, department, and company. Manage inflows and outflows of data and report requests in coordination with other Business Intelligence Group members. Work with team members to produce graphics for written reports and presentations based on accurate and timely data. Assist in outreach for business data and analysis for usage in projects and reports

Position Description

The Analyst, Policy Research & Intelligence will be a key member of GM Global Public Policy’s Strategic Initiative team, which is responsible for identifying and assessing growth opportunities, emerging risks, and long-term trends; informing and strengthening advocacy; and driving enterprise and policy alignment.

The Analyst will be primarily responsible for leading research, analysis, and strategic projects that inform GM’s business priorities and support global advocacy efforts.

The role requires a candidate who is proactive, strategic, and results-driven; produces impactful insights; possesses strong analytical and communications skills; and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment focused on enabling GM’s vision of an all-electric future for everyone.

Responsibilities

  • Issues Monitoring and Analysis:
  • Proactively identify, monitor, research, and analyze emerging policy and industry trends, risks, and opportunities that impact GM’s operations and goals
  • Escalate issues that impact strategic priorities and advocacy in a timely manner
  • Quantitative and Qualitative Research:
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative research, polling, and analysis to inform advocacy; leverage supporting research resources that enhance advocacy and engagement strategies
  • Identify, evaluate, and manage internal and external stakeholder resources that inform GM’s advocacy and strategic goals (e.g., think tanks, research and political strategy consultants)
  • Content Creation: Develop narratives for research findings; prepare clear and concise analyses with actionable insights on important political and regulatory topics for senior GM leadership

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree with 5+ years of professional experience in political science, economics, intelligence analysis, international relations, government, public affairs, or a related field
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels and across functions, using both technical and non-technical verbiage (two writing samples required)
  • Proven analytical and deductive reasoning skills; able to translate findings into direct impacts and recommended actions
  • Expertise in quantitative and qualitative research and analysis
  • Excellent project management skills; capable of setting priorities, meeting deadlines, and managing projects
  • Proven history of successful cross-functional collaboration in fast paced work environments

Desired Skills

  • Clear reputation for ethical conduct, integrity, and confidentiality
  • Experience working with policy issues for the auto industry strongly preferred (e.g., economic competitiveness, trade policies, environmental issues, digital and autonomy issues, manufacturing and supply chains, labor)
  • Solutions-oriented approach that is proactive and innovative – demonstrates boldness, curiosity, and creativity that is also strategically relevant and results-driven
  • Thinks strategically and deals well with ambiguity – able to adapt and quickly analyze situations
  • High level of enthusiasm, persistence, initiative, and experienced judgment to identify priorities, initiate projects, and complete activities with a strong sense of urgency
  • Uses data visualization skills to convey complex concepts effectively to an executive audience

Compensation: The expected base compensation for this role is : $81,000 - $129,400 . Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.

Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
