Position Focus:


 


The Yale Program on Climate Change Communication (YPCCC) invites applications for the position of Partnerships Program Manager, who will be responsible for the coordination and administration of all aspects of an ongoing program, including planning, organizing, staffing, leading, and controlling program activities. In addition, this position plans the delivery of the overall program and its activities in accordance with the mission and the goals of the organization. Based at the Yale School of the Environment, we conduct scientific research on public climate change knowledge, attitudes, policy preferences, and behavior, and the underlying psychological, cultural, and political factors that influence them. We also engage the public in climate change science and solutions, in partnership with governments, media organizations, companies, and civil society, and with a daily, national radio program, Yale Climate Connections. The Partnerships Program supports advocates, governments, educators, and companies drawing on YPCCC data and insights, including Climate Change in the American Mind national surveys, Yale Climate Opinion Maps, Global Warming's Six Americas, Microtargeting Models, and Message and Field Experiments. The Partnerships Manager reports to the Partnerships Director and will work closely with the broader YPCCC team. The ideal Partnerships Manager thinks like an organizer, has a track record of building deep relationships with partners, managing successful projects, and a strategic thinker not afraid to roll up their sleeves to get results.


 


Essential Duties:


 


1. Oversees the advancement and growth of the program. Gives direction and leadership supporting the philosophy, mission, strategy, and annual goals and objectives. Assumes primary accountability for disseminating and publishing all program information to create public awareness and support of the program. 2. Works closely with leadership, internal and external colleagues, and community residents to further develop and implement strategic plans. 3. Identifies, solicits, and cultivates community partnerships and collaborations to assist in the development and growth of the program. Develops the metrics to identify and measure the success of the program. Responsible for measurements of grant success and related evaluation. 4. Assists in identifying and evaluating potential future funding sources, and contributes to the submission of grants and contracts supporting the program, including the annual submission and writing of all content areas and budgetary sections of grant applications. Develops and manages the program’s operating budget. 5. Develops the administrative infrastructure of the program. Manages human resource and administrative functions of the program, including staffing and hiring, supervision, performance development, counseling and discipline, if warranted. Oversees and manages information systems, facilities, and space needs. 6. Investigates, identifies, implements, and oversees the maintenance of systems to gather, track, and report information to support the initiatives of the program. Tracks all program activities and regularly informs leadership of progress on each initiative. Recommends structural or programmatic adjustments, changes or additions based on full knowledge of missions, goals, and objectives. 7. Initiates, designs, and manages the compilation of program communications; identifying outreach potential, and promoting philanthropic and collaborative support of the program. Contributes to the development and assists in the management of content on the program’s website and monitors all changes and additions to the editorial content. 8. Performs other duties as assigned.


 


Required Education and Experience:


 


Minimum requirement of Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


 


Required Skill/Ability 1:


 


Excellent verbal and written communication. Skilled and engaging presenter. Ability to manage projects, set priorities, and advance outcomes.


 


Required Skill/Ability 2:


 


Ability to build and maintain relationships with a diverse range of partners from new organizers to senior leaders. A practical understanding of evidence-based campaign strategy, communications, organizing, and data tools.


 


Required Skill/Ability 3:


 


Aptitude for research design, message testing and other experimentation in an advocacy, marketing, communications, or campaign context and explaining quantitative data to non-research audiences. Ability to understand academic literature on climate change communication and movement building.


 


Required Skill/Ability 4:


 


Proven ability to work with Google Docs, Office 365, constituent relationship management tools such as Salesforce, and Zoom.


 


Required Skill/Ability 5:


 


Cultural Competence: Demonstrated awareness of one’s own identity and views about differences. Track record of successfully working across lines of race, immigration status, ethnicity, language, class, gender and other identities. Passion for building a more effective and equitable climate community.


 


Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:


 


Bachelor’s Degree in political science, sociology, or relevant field and at least 2 years of experience in community organizing, or political campaigns. Experience managing staff, developing trainings, and creating and evaluating data-driven advocacy and communication plans. Familiarity with the academic literature on climate communication and movement-building.
