Dolores Huerta Foundation Background

Established in 2003, the DHF’s mission is to inspire and organize communities to establish volunteer organizations empowered to pursue social justice. DHF conducts movement-building at the intersection of race, class, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status to address the harmful and discriminatory practices and abuses faced by marginalized individuals and families in the San Joaquin Valley. The DHF uses a multi-pronged approach – grassroots organizing, advocacy, leadership development, and a public relations strategy to inform narrative change.

Executive Assistant (Full-time) in Kern County

We are looking for a motivated and organized Executive Assistant to provide day-to-day support to the Executive Team. In this role communication skills are a must. The ideal applicant will be a self-starter and have the ability to balance priority-based tasks.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Associate Degree preferred
  • Administrative Experience a must
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Knowledge of Social Justice Advocacy
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Applications
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends
  • Strong collaborator, able to adapt to an ever-changing environment
  • Reliable transportation
  • CA Driver’s license and auto insurance is a plus

Communications Coordinator (Full-time)

The Dolores Huerta Foundation is looking for an energetic and proactive Communications Coordinator for our Bakersfield Location.

Your role as the Communications Coordinator will write press releases, maintain relationships with press outlets while supporting the goals and values of the Dolores Huerta Foundation.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree in Writing, English, Communication’s or related field
  • An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate
  • 2+ Years’ experience in the Communications Sector
  • Use digital illustration, photo editing software, and layout software to create designs, visual elements such as logos a plus
  • Social justice advocacy experience preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft applications
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Reliable transportation, driver’s license, auto, and automobile insurance is a plus
  • Written and spoken proficiency in Spanish & English a plus

Youth Organizer (Full-time) in Kern, Fresno, Tulare, and Cal City

Under the direct supervision of the Youth Program Manager, the Youth Organizer will implement inclusive and culturally relevant programming that promotes the principles of social justice and civic engagement. The Youth Organizer will work with a small team to implement the Youth and Family Civic Engagement Initiative (YFCEI) to increase civic participation among low-income, disenfranchised youth, and their families. The Youth Organizer will be responsible for recruiting and working with a cohort of 50 diverse youth. The Youth Organizer will facilitate classes, trainings, activities, and civic engagement projects to develop ethics, moral character, and leadership skills necessary for academic, civic, and workforce success. Team members work in a rigorous campaign-style environment with regularly scheduled Saturday classes, evening and weekend activities.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • 3-5 years experience working with youth education
  • Social justice advocacy experience preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft applications
  • Strong collaborator, able to adapt to an ever-changing environment
  • Reliable transportation
  • Driver’s license, auto, and automobile insurance is a plus
  • Able to work evenings and weekends
  • Written and spoken proficiency in Spanish & English is a plus
  • Must pass a background check

Youth Peer Lead (Part-time) in Kern, Fresno, Tulare, and Cal City

The Youth Peer Lead will work with the DHF Youth team to increase access to training around advocacy, healing, and technology for Black, Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC), Latinx, and LGBTQ2+ youth. Youth Peer leads will be trained in a peer-to-peer model focusing on one of the following pathways: civic engagement/advocacy, cultural arts, and healing, or technology.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Candidate must be current DHF Youth Leader
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice, community, and youth empowerment
  • Coaching experience is a plus
  • Demonstrated passion and interest in the well-being of youth and commitment to social justice and community organizing
  • Must be available to work 12-20 hours a week and have the ability to work evenings, weekends, and school breaks (spring, summer, winter)
  • Driver’s license, auto, and automobile insurance is a plus
  • Ability to pass a background check
