SUMMARY: 

NextGen America is seeking a Vice President of Civic Engagement to lead work under the organization’s 501(c)(3) program. This individual will be responsible for being a thought partner and have the opportunity to build a program from the ground up that covers civic engagement, issue education, and leadership development.

This role will report to the Managing Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build and maintain a 501(c)(3)-compliant program from the ground up to engage, educate, train and develop future leaders
  • Craft and oversee program budget 
  • Create civic education programs to train people on the democratic process and how government can be a force for good, as well as on techniques and strategies available to citizens for preserving and changing a society and contributing to the conversation
  • Develop a curriculum around topics such as policy education, advocacy, organizing, and civic engagement skills
  • Recruit national and local experts and community leaders who will assist in curriculum building, training and engagement
  • Facilitate workshops and trainings on various topics in the curriculum
  • Lead the planning and execution of annual advocacy training event
  • Partner with People Operations to develop a career network to share job opportunities and engage alumni in their development as future leaders
  • Perform other duties as assigned


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Knowledge of the inner workings of different levels of government and the tools and techniques available to the public for engaging with their elected officials
  • 7+ years experience in partnerships, relationship building, strategic initiatives, or development with nonprofit, government, foundations, electoral campaigns, or similar organizations 
  • 7+ years experience in facilitating trainings and/or workshops for diverse audiences, including content creation
  • Excellent relationship-building skills and an entrepreneurial approach that leverages further opportunities
  • Demonstrated track record of setting clear priorities and success in driving a results-oriented agenda that ties back to organizational long-term goals and strategy 
  • Ability to evaluate risks and opportunities; uses analytical and problem-solving skills; is a self-starter; takes initiative and drives for results
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues and outside organizations and be able to multitask without sacrificing quality of work
  • Strong organizational, strategic, and analytical skills, ability to manage and prioritize numerous projects while clearly measuring performance and meeting goals and deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills (strong writing and presentation abilities) with attention to detail
  • Availability to travel on a regular basis
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Ability to foster a cooperative, team-oriented work environment
  • Comfortable working remotely in a highly collaborative distributed workforce setting


COMPENSATION:

Salary range for this position is $132,000 - $158,000, compensation will be based on experience. NextGen America also offers a very comprehensive benefits package.
