About ASAP

The Armed Services Arts Partnership (ASAP) is the largest community arts organization serving the military community in the US. ASAP fosters creative communities where veterans, service members, military family members, and caregivers thrive through the arts. Our free, immersive classes include stand-up comedy, storytelling, improv, creative writing, acting, drawing, and more. Research demonstrates ASAP participants experience significant, lasting improvements in resilience, belonging, self-esteem, and integration of self.

ASAP chapters are currently located in Washington, DC; Hampton Roads, VA; San Diego, CA; and Indianapolis, IN — and we are expanding nationally. We’ve reached 1,700 unique veterans in six years, and our alumni have performed for an estimated 150,000+ audience members, including shows at the Warner Theater, Gotham Comedy Club, and at The White House under President Obama. We have been featured by CNN, ABC, NBC, PBS, NPR, The Washington Post, POLITICO, and Forbes.

About this Role

Location: Remote role based in the Washington, DC metro area. Some in-person event attendance is required. Up to 20% travel time.

Your Responsibilities

As Chief of Staff, you’ll collaborate closely with ASAP’s Executive Director to advance our strategic objectives and national growth plan. You’ll take on a cross-functional leadership role and you’ll play a crucial part in ASAP’s success. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to ambitious and realistic strategic planning processes with ASAP’s Executive Director — and then execute those plans across multiple departments.
  • Capacity Building: Design and build processes and systems needed to ensure operational excellence and prepare for ASAP’s growth, both financially and geographically.
  • Project Management: As ASAP’s most important cross-functional employee, guide complex projects from start to finish — whether CRM development, a fundraising event, or a new instructor training program.
  • Partnerships: Build strategic partnerships with foundations, entertainment industry stakeholders, arts organizations, and government agencies to advance program goals.
  • Operations: Collaborate with ASAP’s Operations Manager to improve internal efficiency and keep the trains running on time.

You’ll Love this Role if

  • You're agile and practical. You get things done, solve problems, and overcome obstacles.
  • You’re a great communicator. You listen carefully and articulate your vision clearly. You keep everyone looped in so projects get done efficiently and effectively.
  • You're a strategic thinker. You know how to prioritize your days to meet ASAP’s organizational goals, you know how to delegate, and you know how to say “no.”
  • You’re a team player. You thrive in a creative and fast-paced start-up environment with people who are passionate about their work. You’re excited to work with other departments and find joy in coaching team members to maximize their effectiveness.
  • You’re organized and detail-oriented. You manage time effectively and can remain organized while working on multiple projects at once.
  • You’re curious. You constantly seek out opportunities to sharpen ASAP’s communication effort. You love critical feedback because it is a chance to get better.
  • You’re creative. You have ideas that might seem a little out there. You love working with different people to synthesize your vision into manageable and consumable products and messages.

  • Annual compensation of $75,000-$80,000
  • Full healthcare, vision, and dental benefits
  • Retirement plan with a 2% employer contribution
  • $1,500 annual leadership development stipend

  • Opportunities to publish op-eds and academic articles, speak at conferences and panels, and represent ASAP to the media
