Job Description

iCivics (www.icivics.org) seeks an experienced project director to support a multi-year project under a U.S. Department of Defense National Defense Education Program (NDEP) grant. The project director is responsible for the overall management of the project including serving as the main liaison between staff and relevant departments within the U.S. Department of Defense; supervising independent contractors, subawardees, and volunteers on the project team; working in coordination with iCivics Senior Director of Partnerships to oversee project implementation; financial and administrative oversight, reporting, and monitoring and evaluation of the project. This position will also oversee the operations and delivery of grants support management activities to the U.S. Department of Defense.

Over the next two years, the project director will oversee the launch of DoDEA school-based and JROTC pilots and a military classroom volunteer program, the implementation of teacher professional development across multiple states, and the formation of a Military Educator Network. S/he will also work closely with iCivics curriculum team as they rapidly expand a range of resources relevant to this project.

Project Launch

  • Implement project management and project oversight ensuring timely completion of all deliverables, and that deliverables meet the requirements of the U.S. Department of Defense.
  • Create metrics and progress reports detailing the status, outputs, and progress associated with the Civics, Service, and Leadership program.

Supervisory Leadership

  • Serve as primary liaison between staff and relevant departments within the U.S. Department of Defense.
  • Develop and manage initial and full pilot, as well as evaluation and feedback.
  • Provide inspiring and motivating project leadership that ensures strong momentum for the project.
  • Provide financial and administrative oversight, reporting, monitoring and evaluation of project.
  • Supervise a number of independent contractors and volunteers on the project team.

Qualifications

  • Experience and knowledge in the administration of federal grants. Experience with Department of Defense grants, in particular, is a plus.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in federal grants management
  • 3-5 years’ experience supervising direct reports
  • Demonstrated ability/experience in successfully managing government grants and projects
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively when speaking and in writing
  • Experience and capacity to work effectively in web-based systems, databases and tracking systems
  • Experience effectively managing multiple priorities and negotiating necessary changes with stakeholders
  • Ability to travel as needed to support project

This is a full-time position (remote) for the two year duration of the grant, with the possibility for extension.
