About the Team:

We are looking for a technologist with significant public policy experience to join the TikTok public policy team. The Americas public policy subject matter experts team consists of tech policy experts from an array of disciplines. We provide strategic advice to the business and anticipate policy trends and impacts. We also proactively drive thought leadership by seeking out new ideas to help the company lead the industry. You will focus on helping policymakers and external stakeholders understand the technical underpinnings of the platform, and serve as a technical translator and subject matter expert for the broader Americas public policy team, based in Washington, DC.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with the engineering team to ensure understanding of the technical underpinnings of TikTok's cutting-edge technologies, including issues related to the algorithm, data flows, and cybersecurity policies and processes.
  • Analyze and explain TikTok's internet architecture to external non-technical audiences while setting and maintaining a high ethical standard.
  • Serve as liaison between public policy and cross-functional teams, delivering feedback and enabling them to make necessary changes to product performance or presentation.
  • Advise the broader Americas public policy team on a broad range of technology, strategy, and policy issues associated with algorithmic decision making, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and related issues.
  • Partner with the public policy team to ensure that external communications are accurate and comprehensible to a general audience. This requires the ability to precisely translate and clearly communicate complex engineering topics into more relatable explanations.

Qualifications

  • BS in computer science, engineering, or related technical degree. Significant equivalent work experience may be considered as an alternative.
  • Strong CS fundamentals (algorithms, data structures, OOP design) and problem-solving skills.
  • 10+ years of professional experience.
  • 5+ years working in the computer science field or an advanced degree in computer science or related field.
  • Basic knowledge in computer vision / computer graphics / deep learning.
  • Experience translating technical topics to non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated history of public speaking required.
