Public Affairs Specialist (Recent Graduates)

Summary

The Public Affairs Specialist position reports to the Chief of Staff in the Office of the Chairman and will work with the Chief of Staff, Senior Advisor for Legislative and Public Affairs, and the Communications Team to conduct day-to-day operational public affairs tasks.


Duties

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-13. You will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.


Organize and coordinate news media interviews for the Chair and other Commission staff. Coordinate with trade association representatives and other external parties regarding the logistics for speaking engagements for the Chair and other Commission staff and participate in the preparation of briefing memoranda or talking points. Draft press releases, prepare briefing books, drafts of speeches/talking points, coordinate with the Communications Team and the Office of the Secretary to update the Commission's Events page and other website content, and update the Commission's social media pages.

Researches, develops, and implements informational materials and presentations with the purpose of educating a diverse audience of internal and external customers and the public regarding Commission functions, programs, and initiatives, including those that result from statutory or regulatory changes. The Public Affairs Specialist will formulate and deliver workshops, seminars, and other meetings with organizations that interact with the Commission to educate about the Commission's policies and programs.

Organizes, conducts, and leads complex brainstorm sessions that aid in planning and executing communication strategies to disseminate and share agency information through various communication mediums. Analyzes and assembles data, coordinates with the Communication Team and other staff/offices and briefs on best courses of action for assignments.

Collaborates and participates fully with the Communications Team on the annual Strategic Communications Plan for the Commission designed to incorporate all known events for the calendar year. Prepares contingency plans that support the agency.
