SUMMARY: 

NextGen America is seeking a Director of Strategic Initiatives to lead programming and grant-based projects under the organization’s 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) programs. In this role you will develop and drive a number of initiatives designed to engage diverse communities and partners across the country, ultimately helping us better connect with diverse constituencies left behind by traditional power structures and elevating their voices in every aspect of the democratic process.

This role will report to the Vice President of Strategic Partnerships.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the development and execution of organizational initiatives, particularly around underrepresented communities
  • Drive diversity-centered initiatives to engage with prospective and existing voters with a focus on communities of colors, working-class, and non-college or alternatively educated individuals
  • Design, build and manage new and existing partnerships to engage with underrepresented communities
  • Work with our partnerships/political managers and development team to track government funding opportunities and implementation practices that are at the intersection of key policy areas and young people 
  • Collaborate with our development department to source strategic funding opportunities and subsequently lead special projects  
  • Ensure programming is compliant with grant requirements, as well as nonprofit and campaign finance regulations
  • Collaborate on community research and polling efforts to determine strategic messaging, programming and outreach needs for the organization
  • Lead cross-departmental collaboration to accomplish organizational and programmatic goals, including working closely with the campaign (in-state and distributed) staff
  • Collaborate with and provide guidance to Manager of Strategic Initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • 5+ years experience in strategic planning, community outreach and program building, preferably in a campaign or advocacy environment 
  • 5+ years experience working effectively within diverse populations and/or underserved communities
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of community organizing principles, racial and cultural differences, and an understanding of issues and concerns of communities of color 
  • Understanding of and participation in grant lifecycle management
  • Experience with 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4)-compliant programming
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues and outside organizations and be able to multitask without sacrificing quality of work
  • Strong organizational, strategic, written and analytical skills, ability to manage and prioritize numerous projects while clearly measuring performance and meeting goals and deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills (strong writing and presentation abilities) with attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Ability to foster a cooperative, team-oriented work environment
  • Comfortable working remotely in a highly collaborative distributed workforce setting


COMPENSATION:

Salary range for this position is $98,000-$117,000, compensation will be based on experience. NextGen America also offers a very comprehensive benefits package.
