Asian American Advocacy Fund – Organizing Manager 

The Asian American Advocacy Fund, a non-profit 501(c)(4) social welfare organization based in Norcross, Georgia, is currently seeking an experienced hands-on individual to join its Organizing team in the position of Organizing Manager. The individual selected as Organizing Manager will report directly to the Executive Director.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Organizing Manager, who is based in Georgia and reports to the Executive Director, is responsible for the following: 

Program Development & Management: 40%

  • Create a powerful base by leading the ongoing membership program, and developing outreach tactics for electoral programs
  • Manage overall field program including developing a process for hiring, training, and managing Community Organizers and canvassers who can meet in-language & community-specific needs along with modeling and educating the Organizing Team of cultural norms
  • Build on existing community organizing programs and create plans to expand outreach through relational organizing, member and volunteer recruitment, and events 
  • Manage a team of electoral program staff and implement voter contact programs during local, state, and federal elections 
  • Train and provide support to organizers and canvassers on using the internal activist and voter databases to track supporters, volunteers, and members (VAN, EveryAction, Hustle, etc.) 
  • Manage a team of ethnic-specific community organizers and help them achieve their organizing goals


Management & Administration: 30%

  • Develops systems and oversees the day-to-day work of the Organizing team to ensure the overall yearly strategic goals are met in partnership with the Political team 
  • Creates work plans for the Organizing Team including membership development and recruitment, electoral outreach, and legislative campaign mobilization
  • Manages volunteer and member recruitment, retention, and engagement programs with support from Organizing staff 
  • Helps to develop the budget for the Organizing team, including canvassing hires, outreach materials, membership swag, membership meetings, and events
  • Facilitates the workflow, along with keeping an ear to the ground for possible local and world events that could impact and shape the work of the AAAF


Engagement with Community Leaders and Organizations: 30%

  • Work collaboratively with organizational leadership and movement membership to guide overall organizational direction
  • Collaborate with the Political and Communications team to develop messaging to engage with communities in person and digitally 
  • Cultivate new partnerships with local and national Asian American organizations while strengthening existing partnerships
  • Engage with community leaders beyond the AAAF’s primary scope to create or expand organizing networks and relationships
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS 

Must Haves: 

  • A minimum of three years of grassroots community organizing experience with issue-based or community organizations, including one year of electoral campaign experience in a management role
  • Proven ability to plan and execute strategies with team members, while providing opportunities for growth and accountability
  • Experience organizing in AAPI or AMEMSA communities, or other immigrant spaces
  • Proven skills in relationship-building among community partners, and other stakeholders
  • Commitment to immigrant justice, and the values of the Asian American Advocacy Fund
  • Dependable, detail-oriented, and well organized – able to multitask, meet deadlines and adapt to the changing political dynamics


Nice-to-haves: 

  • Experience working in/with a base-building organization, 501(c)4, and PACs
  • Understanding of Georgia politics and regional landscape
  • Wants to help build Asian American political power in Georgia
  • Someone who is growth-oriented and has a growth mindset, who enjoys looking at and strategizes how to improve upon systems and processes 
  • Has a strong tie to the Asian American community
  • Has baseline organizing knowledge, and can lead basic training for relational organizing and organizing 101


Physical Demands 

  • Evenings and weekend events 
  • Must have the physical ability to carry items up to 10 pounds on occasion.
  • Must be able to move around the office to communicate with staff daily
  • Must be able to drive extensively throughout the metro-Atlanta area and have ready access to a car 
  • Must be able to be outside in the elements for at least five (5) hours continuously per day during the campaign season
