Position Description

 

We are currently seeking a bright, focused, and proactive individual to join our team as a Senior Director in our Research and Policy Analysis (RPA) team. The RPA team provides fundamental support to FTP’s government relations and public affairs professionals by researching, interpreting, and summarizing federal and state legislation, key developments in the legislative process, public policy proposals, political dynamics of key topics, and media coverage of pertinent issues. The RPA team is central to all of our work at FTP, from business development to building strategy and demonstrating successful outcomes. This position is full-time salaried, with benefits and paid holidays.

 

Primary Responsibilities

 

§  Directing the completion of legislative, regulatory, public affairs, and general research projects, including content for broad-based policy analyses.

§  Managing departmental assignments, workflow, project execution, and cross-department coordination.

§  Supervising and editing contributions to both recurring policy bulletins and issue-specific reports.

§  Developing concepts for and leading the execution of original research.

§  Leading research-based assessments of the business, policy issue, political and marketplace environments to support current and prospective clients.

§  Aiding in the assessment of potential public policy impacts of various legislative and regulatory proposals.

§  Drafting public facing research documents to support ongoing issue advocacy campaigns.

§  Assessing new tools for research and helping integrate them into our research process.

 

Qualifications

 

Ideal candidates will have a bachelor’s degree (with a graduate degree preferred). Relevant prior experience, 4-6 years of relevant legislative or policy experience, and demonstrated knowledge of Congress, federal agencies, or state government. Ideal applicants must have a keen attention to detail, demonstrated ability to effectively, simultaneously manage multiple projects, exceptional writing abilities, and effective interpersonal skills.

 

Additional required professional attributes include:

 

§  Familiarity with technological platforms including Microsoft Office Suite.

§  Understanding of how public policy decisions impact clients’ abilities needs.

§  Strong desire to keep learning and taking additional recommended training as needed.

§  Ability to develop and lead strategic planning.

§  Passion for researching, writing, and editing content pieces while utilizing strong grammar skills.

§  Demonstrated ability to write and edit clear, concise, thorough issue summaries and analyses.

§  Independent, strategic thinking and creative problem-solving skills.

§  Demonstrated capacity for teamwork, including the ability to effectively engage supervisors and subordinates under quick, tight deadlines within and across teams. Supervise RPA staff in the production on content and collateral for research assignments.

§  The ability to quickly and accurately conduct legislative research by reviewing legislation, congressional proceedings and transcripts, and member profiles.

§  The ability to simultaneously manage multiple assignments in a flexible, fast-paced, team-based environment.

§  An instinct for identifying and elevating substantively and politically salient elements within large, complicated issues.

§  The ability to think creatively about how to express the ramifications of policy proposals and political developments across issues.
