Assistant State Director

The Assistant State Director supports the State Director with the internal, legislative, and political affairs of the state office to further the interests of NFIB in the assigned state. Works to maintain and strengthen the legislative contact network among members. Responsibilities include interacting with the state’s legislative offices/committees to promote the interests of NFIB and the small business community; working with volunteers; facilitating member relations through written communications, meetings and resolution of member inquiries; research/analyze legislative issues that impact NFIB membership.

Grassroots:

The ASD will also help to develop, coordinate, and implement grassroots activities for NFIB members, in coordination with State Director and internal departments, to further advance the organization’s mission and grow member activism.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, recruiting and training activists, coordinating strategic grassroots campaigns, administering strategies for activism, building and maintaining a key contact program, especially in priority legislative districts, and maintenance of activist data. Work collaboratively with media managers to support opportunities for member participation, plan and execute events and meetings, assist with fundraising, political activities, member recruitment, and membership support.

Must communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; work outcomes must meet and / or exceed productivity and quality standards. Must be able to work as part of a cooperative team environment, adhering to Company and Department policies and procedures. Performs other projects as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

Five (5) years experience in a business association, a legislative staff position in state government or similar position.

Specialized knowledge of state legislative process. Knowledge of political issues through previous work and research experience.

Proficient in Microsoft Office. Experience using a CRM system.

Professional, energetic self-starter. Must possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, and verbal and written communications skills; including public presentation skills for large groups.

Some travel required.
