The Public Policy team is the voice of the Lyft community to legislators and policymakers, charged with a multi-faceted mission that includes research, education, advocacy, and community outreach. The work we do lays the legal framework and policy foundation for the future of transportation. We are looking for someone passionate about Lyft to help frame conversations happening across the US.
The Policy Research Analyst will leverage Lyft’s vast database to answer important questions regarding the impact of Lyft on drivers, riders, local economies, transit systems, transportation access, environment, crime, impaired driving, and other policy-oriented topics. Reports will inform legislators around the world, in addition to stakeholders across the company including Public Policy, Communications, Marketing, and Lyft executives.

Responsibilities:

Perform technical data and geospatial analysis to:
Produce talking points with company data for Policy Managers and develop Public Affairs collateral
Inform stakeholders on Lyft's social impact and responsibility goals
Discover interesting research opportunities
Define, write, vet and procure data for 3rd party researchers
Work directly with researchers to define and vet scope of work
Design and build custom metrics using SQL and Python
Build queries to execute data agreements
Follow proper security protocols for data transfer
Quantitative Research Support
Research and respond to daily quantitative research inquiries from the Policy team and other internal stakeholders
Long-term Quantitative Projects
Inform the design and implementation of projects relating to curb access, street design and other city pilot projects
Build out geospatial visualization solutions for Public Affairs collateral and policy initiatives
Work with policy advisors to build out legislative databse and assicated visualization structures
Author and maintain ETL to support Policy team analytics
Provide technical and project management support to advance strategic Policy team initiatives
Strategic Internal Partnership Support
Build relationships with and assist other internal teams, including but no limited to Transit Partnerships, Airports, Communications and Legal, on reporting requirements and other matters

Experience & Skills:

3+ year of experience in an analytical role
B.S. preferably in economics, applied math, statistics or other quantitative field
Strong interest in public policy, especially transportation and/or urban planning
Proficient with SQL, GIS, Python/R and Excel
Hypothesis testing and causal inference
Regression analysis
Ability to efficiently query, join and analyze large data sets
Experience authoring data pipelines in Postgres and/or Hive
Great oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated ability to distill complex statistical results into simple facts
Ability to thrive in a startup environment
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Javascript and web-based data visualization, particularly with D3.js, Leaflet.js, Mapbox
